AKC Canine Good Citizen Class

Would you like to have the best behaved dog in the neighborhood? All dogs can be good dogs and all owners can be great owners. It just takes a little bit of training, and lots of love and praise along the way. AKC created the Canine Good Citizen program designed to help you and your dog be the best you can be...together. Since 1989, over 1 million dogs and their owners have participated in CGC, mastering 10 basic skills that instill confidence and good manners in and out of your home.

Not only does CGC training create long-lasting trust between you and your pup, but also ensures you’ll be good neighbors and friends to everyone around you. And, if you’re interested in going beyond the basics, CGC also lays the foundation for other AKC sports and activities like obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events.

We offer CGC classes for dogs that are approximately 7 months and older. All dogs, both purebred and mixed breed, are welcome to participate in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class. Dogs must be old enough to have received necessary immunizations, such as rabies vaccines. Each week, the instructor will work with you on responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Some of the skills taught will include sit politely for petting, out for a walk, sit, down, stay in place, etc.
